This installation is a shelving unite comprised of porcelain shells balancing in a wooden frame. These elements evoke the untouchable objects in a ‘china cabinet’. Historically in colonial times these cabinets were for displaying almost transparent fragile blue porcelain objects. In these you show your connection with exotic places/the faraway where you would never go. These products are more about what is represents then for use. In this installation culture, art and function come together.
Blue is a colour that holds great significance for me. It is staring into the endless faraway from a mountain range, where this elusive distance van be overwhelming, Fragile porcelain combined with misty cobalt glazes enables the viewer to get near to the feeling of this distant blue.
