As part of an collaboration with gallery NySpace in manchester I organised and curated the exhibition ‘By Distance///Nearest’.
By Distance /// Nearest explores the physical and artistic distance of art objects and their makers. The exhibition /// Nearest is the final exhibition of the project By Distance: a two year long dialogue and exchange between Manchester and Rotterdam artists and designers. By Distance was initiated and curated by Ny Space Manchester, and led by Designer Elise Zoetmulder (NL) and Artist Janine Goldsworthy (UK) as a means to keep up their shared interest in the symbolic potency of the love of blue. The residency was principally virtual, by distance, exploring the impact of this continuous close but physically detached relationship on their practice. By Distance includes work and dialogue with six other artists that the curators felt had a strong link to their interests. This dialogue consisted of a series of workshops, discussion events, and exhibitions in both cities. Goldsworthy and Zoetmulder will continue the collaboration beyond the project and are currently researching international residencies to spend substantial physical time together in a new place and country.
